I went to Richard’s after work today. I took him a signed, typewritten affidavit supporting some of the statements he had given police regarding his last wreck– the New Year’s Eve accident when he left the scene. Both cases– this, and his Thanksgiving Day wreck– are either going to trial or having hearings this week. I don’t know all the details. I do know when Richard called me last night and started an incoherent spiel that made me think he wanted to lie to the police and suggested that I may have to appear in court– I immediately broke out in hives. I still have them. I suppose hives are better than hyperventilating. Pick your poison. Nerve pills for the Young Adults.

Richard has been going to AA meetings for several weeks now. He is shaky but sober. I am very proud of him. He is out of work– spent all day today at the unemployment office. He looks haggard and battered. But sober. That makes me very proud.
