Larry, at the age of 26, prefers, if given a choice, to provide liquor for the evening instead of dinner.

Imagine,

So I sit in a robe that a neighbor has given me that doesn’t have a left pocket and drink beer out of a quart bottle and drift through space.

In a little while, Larry knows through much experience, that he will sleep deeply and soundly for the next few hours and tomorrow the day will start again. What pain is he avoiding? What does a life of sobriety hold? Larry is a devotee of getting high.

“and that’s James Jones who wrote From Here To Eternity when he lived in Paris”

Larry wants a lot out of life. He wants to be loved and have the world at his disposal. He wants everyone to say “this act is all right.” He wants not only to dazzle, as so many do, but to make them love. He wants to be a true star.
