Yesterday was a day of horror. A plane taking off from National Airport crashed into the 14th Street bridge in Washington— smashing cars and plunging the passengers into the frozen Potomac. News broadcasts of victims freezing, drowning— unable to grab hold of life preservers dropped to them from helicopters— their faces— their eyes— as they flailed dying in the frozen water. Death and horror, sudden.
